The Asia Pacific region has nearly 60% of the world’s population. There is considerable diversity in the region in terms of economic advancement, human development, and therefore, profile and spectrum of pediatric disease. A number of less advanced and most densely populated nations in the region have relatively high birth rates and high proportion of children and young adults. As a result, the Asia‑Pacific region has even higher proportion of the world’s children living in the region. The development of advanced pediatric cardiac care in a region, in some ways, can be considered as a surrogate of the overall advancement and sophistication of healthcare services in the region.
